Let’s take a minute and be honest to ourselves. Instagram is changing the way we see and do things. Even if we admit it or not. Is changing our wardrobe, makeup, hairstyle, vacation destination and of course our wallet! Now we desire things just because we saw them first on Instagram. It’s a sad thing but even the studies shows that the herd instinct has a big influence when we buy something. It’s strage how original we all want to be, but we ending up buying something that everyone has. Herd instinct!
The year of 2016 was the “Gucci year” on Instagram ( from my personal opinion ). Everywhere I looked all I could see was Gucci shoes, Belt, bags, t-shirt, sweaters. Every single important influencer had/has something from Gucci! Not to talk about those flurry flippers 🙄 I mean…how many of us would have bought those shoes if it wasn’t for herd instinct??
When you have no problem with money, buying something that you didn’t really need it it’s not such a big deal, but when your budget it’s a bit limited wanting something so expensive like a bag or a belt from a big brand, it’s an issue. When the desire is huge and the wallet empty, some of the people from the last category may resort to some non orthodox methods like buying replicas. Well…it’s cheaper, that’s true, but it will never be at the level of an original one. Spotting a replica it’s so easy. You just have to pay attention at some little details.
Let’s take the original one and analyze it:
Look how smooth the left G enters in the right G. They match perfectly. No space between, no irregularity.
Let’s analyze the replica:
At a first look they may seem the same, but if you pay attention the place where the left G meets the right G it’s too big and irregular. Another thing: the seam at the original one it’s right beneath the top of the logo and right above the top of the logo at the replica.
I think it’s obvious which one is the original and which is the replica. Except the space between the Gs that is so evident, notice the point also. The original has the point very thin and sharp while the replica has not so well defined points.
Conclusion: don’t buy a replica. Even if it’s a well made one. You will know the truth, the satisfaction it will be zero. If you can’t afford an expensive item, that’s fine. You don’t need expensive things to express yourself. Just be creative with what you have. For example, I love to buy vintage bags. Almost all my bags are vintage. Milano has some beautiful stores where you can find long forgotten treasures. The great thing is that they don’t cost much, they have a great quality and I’m the only one who has it.
I will end this post with two of my favorite designers quotes ever:
“Never use the word “cheap”. Today everybody can look chic in inexpensive clothes (the rich buy them too). There is good clothing design on every level today. You can be the chicest thing in the world in a T-shirt and jeans — it’s up to you.”
“In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different”
